Here are some books I recently read that I would recommend if they look interesting to you.
Giannis: The Improbable Rise of an MVP, by Mirin Fader
Giannis’s rise to the NBA from extreme poverty in Greece is incredible. Good one for any basketball fan.
Dave’s Way, by Dave Thomas
One of the better “How I Did It” books that I’ve read. He clearly explains all of the principles and techniques that were important to build Wendy’s into a national fast-food franchise.
Pappyland, by Wright Thompson
Good one for bourbon fans. Also a surprisingly good book on family legacy, fathers and sons, and what a child owes to their parents (if anything).
The Management Ideas of Nick Saban, by Leadership Case Studies
The Leadership Lessons of Gregg Popovich, by Leadership Case Studies
These are 40-page booklets that compile lessons from stories written about legendary coaches or athletes. Not the best written or edited, but you can learn something quickly in a half hour.
The Daily Laws, by Robert Greene
One of the best daily books I’ve ever read. He did an outstanding job of pulling themes from all of his books. It felt like you got a good sense of his life’s work in a single volume.
Paradise Found: A High School Football Team’s Rise from the Ashes, by Bill Plaschke
Amazing story of the 2019 Paradise High football team returning to play a new season following a wildfire that burned down the town in November 2018.

My Dream Time: A Memoir of Tennis & Teamwork, by Ash Barty
Good memoir by the Australian tennis player that rose to #1 in the world before retiring in her mid-20s.
Talk of Champions: Stories of the People Who Made Me, by Kenny Smith
Great concept for a book: Write about all of the people that helped you become the person you are today. Parents, coaches, teammates, co-workers. I liked this one a lot.
The Warrior Ethos, by Steven Pressfield
Quick read that pulls principles from the great warrior tribes of human history.
The Bezos Blueprint: Communication Secrets of the World’s Greatest Salesman, by Carmine Gallo
Fantastic book on communication. I got at least 4 or 5 things from this that I’ll carry with me for future writing and speaking.
Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son’s First Year, by Anne Lamott
Good one for a soon-to-be-parent. Both hilarious and poignant. Gives a good sense of the day-to-day of being a parent of an infant.
Father to Son: Life Lessons on Raising a Boy, by Harry Harrison Jr.
Fast read since it’s only a one sentence lesson on each page. Good primer for a soon-to-be-parent to get you in the right state of mind for the new journey that’s about to start. There is also Mother to Son, Father to Daughter, and Mother to Daughter.
